Guwahati: Badruddin Ajmal called out the state Tuesday. The AIUDF chief wants an immediate end to the pushback of suspected Bangladeshi nationals. He claims the government practice breaks the law and spits on the Constitution. The legislator demanded authorities stick to the rule of law instead of carrying out forced removals.
Ajmal insisted his previous claims regarding these deportations rely on official government data. He promised to release hard figures soon. He pulled no punches while describing the state operations. "Pushback is absolutely unlawful; it is illegal. It is wrong, and it shouldn't happen. It is an atrocity," Ajmal said.
The debate over how to handle illegal immigration in Assam keeps heating up. Ajmal accused the people behind the current deportation tactics of failing to respect the Indian Constitution. He maintains that international standards and national laws must dictate how the country handles foreign citizens. The government has yet to respond to his claims.
