Guwahati: Kameswar Kalita quit his job at the Bogapani Tea Estate hospital in Tinsukia, Assam. He stepped down during a management-led investigation into his professional credentials. Kalita served the estate since the mid-1990s. He started under Namdang Tea Co. Ltd. after receiving an interview call on May 6, 1994. The company later appointed him as a Medical Grade-II pharmacist in July 1996, backdated to April 1994. MacLeod Russel India Ltd. now manages the facility.
Discrepancies triggered the inquiry. A source noted that a complaint alleged issues with his documentation. A senior hospital official said, "The registration number submitted earlier as that of a rural pharmacist does not match the registration number presently being claimed." Management is scrutinizing a pharmacy diploma from the Institute of Pharmacy in Guwahati. Kalita confirmed his resignation to avoid potential legal fallout.
The estate Deputy Manager is waiting for a report from the Medical Inspector. This update should arrive in a few days. The Dibrugarh unit of the Assam Registered Pharmacists’ Association has demanded a full audit of all three hospital pharmacists. They insist that only registered staff handle medicine dispensing. While representatives from the Assam Pharmacy Council may visit the estate soon, management has not yet filed an FIR.
