Guwahati: Residents and officials across Assam's Baksa district celebrated World Environment Day on June 5 with extensive tree planting, cleanliness campaigns, and educational programs. The events were held under the theme, "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future."

District Commissioner Kimnei Changsan spearheaded the initiative by planting saplings at the Mushalpur office campus and Arnibil village. The effort saw widespread participation from government departments, schools, local organizations, and personnel from the Sashastra Seema Bal. These participants worked together to plant and distribute over 5,100 saplings provided by the District Forest Office.

Vegetation was added to a variety of public spaces, including reserve forests, childcare institutions, and government office grounds. The work falls under the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign, which seeks to expand green cover throughout the region. Officials confirmed that this environmental drive will continue through September 17, 2026, to encourage long-term conservation efforts.
