Assam Reports Major Gains in Tiger Population

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma marked International Tiger Day on July 29 by showcasing the state as a top model for wildlife protection. Assam uses tech surveillance and habitat management to secure the Royal Bengal Tiger. Tigers are winning. Sarma reported steady population growth across the state, citing rigorous anti-poaching measures and the preservation of vital wildlife corridors.

Nameri Tiger Reserve stands out as a clear success story. The population there jumped fourfold, moving from three tigers to 12. Sarma said, "Assam has emerged as a leading model for habitat management and wildlife protection through sustained conservation efforts." Other key areas like Kaziranga, Manas, and Orang reserves provide safe homes for the big cats.

The government remains focused on the apex predator. Sarma wants the public to keep working together to maintain ecological balance. The future looks bright for the state's wildlife.
