Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma marked International Tiger Day on July 29 by showcasing the state as a top performer in wild tiger protection. He pointed to a combination of technology-driven surveillance, strict anti-poaching protocols, and the active preservation of wildlife corridors as the engine behind this success.
Sarma celebrated the state's progress in an official post on X. "On #InternationalTigerDay, we celebrate the remarkable success of India’s tiger conservation strategy, with Assam emerging as a stellar model of habitat management and wildlife protection," he wrote.
The state recorded a major win at Nameri Tiger Reserve. The facility saw its tiger population jump from three to 12 in recent years. This four-fold spike represents a standout achievement for the region. Reserves like Kaziranga, Manas, Orang, and Nameri now serve as primary secure habitats for the Royal Bengal Tiger.
Sarma pledged to keep up the work. He wants to maintain the ecological balance of the region by protecting apex predators. Collective action remains his stated priority.
