Imphal: The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN/GPRN) issued a new demand for Naga unity and reconciliation from Hebron and Ukhrul on October 8. The group says the fight for sovereignty has lasted over seven decades, fueled by consistent support from the Naga people.
The organization insists on a singular identity despite current political maps. They claim external forces split ancestral territories between India and Myanmar back in 1953. To them, those borders do not exist. As the group stated, "neither Eastern Nagalim nor Western Nagalim; there is only Nagalim."
Reconciliation remains a primary goal. The leadership urged various Naga groups to drop their internal squabbles and reach a common political understanding based on their historical rights. They hit out at unnamed forces they claim are working to block a settlement or derail unity.
Younger generations should look to history as a teacher, not a cage, according to the group. They want the people to learn from past errors to build a stronger future. While the NSCN/GPRN says it wants peace, it refuses to ditch its political goals. They labeled their stance as "peace in freedom." The statement ended with a call for Nagas everywhere to bond as one family, one people, and one nation.
