Guwahati: Assam Police have implemented a mandatory care schedule for a 65-year-old widow in Sualkuchi after her three daughters refused to support her. The woman, who made her living as a weaver, found herself without assistance as her health and financial situation declined. Although her daughters are married and living independently, none initially stepped forward to provide her with a home.

The case reached a breaking point when two of the daughters reportedly abandoned their mother on a roadside in Guwahati. Officers from the Gorchuk Police Station rescued the woman and transferred her case to the Sualkuchi Police. Despite efforts by the authorities to persuade the daughters to care for their mother, they continued to decline responsibility.

To prevent the woman from remaining destitute, the Sualkuchi Police facilitated a lottery system to divide the duty among the siblings. Under this arrangement, each daughter is now required to house and provide for their mother on a one-week rotational basis. Police confirmed that this intervention serves as an immediate measure to guarantee the senior citizen receives the care she needs while ensuring shared accountability among her family members.
