Guwahati: Assam Industries Minister Bimal Borah pushed for rapid growth at Assam Petrochemicals Limited during a Monday, July 13 meeting at Janata Bhawan. He wants results. The session targeted refining business strategy and boosting methanol output through new commercial avenues. Officials want to turn methanol into a major marine fuel player.

High natural gas costs remain a major hurdle for the company. The state resolved to lobby the Centre for lower gas rates to keep APL operations competitive. They also want a wider, more profitable product portfolio. "The meeting resolved to urge the Centre to facilitate lower gas prices to improve the competitiveness of APL's operations."

Expansion plans move fast. Projects at Namrup and Baitamari are underway. The company is also looking at a new methanol project at Deendayal Port in Gujarat. Officials eye the Bangladesh market via inland waterways. Shipping deals should finalize soon.

Key leadership attended, including Additional Chief Secretary Dr. J.B. Ekka, Secretary Indira Kalita, and APL Managing Director Rajneesh Gogoi. Borah ordered monthly progress reports to track performance. The government wants constant oversight on these expansion goals.
