Guwahati: Special Chief Secretary M. K. Yadava convened a stakeholder meeting in Amingaon to address the surge in human-elephant conflicts across the Palashbari and Boko-Chhaygaon areas of Kamrup. The discussion brought together district administrators, forest officials, and local representatives to develop strategies for minimizing property damage and preventing the loss of life.
District Commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra outlined plans to install solar fencing and construct watch towers in vulnerable regions to improve monitoring. The administration aims to strengthen early-warning systems while enhancing communication between the Forest Department, local authorities, and residents.
During the session, participants explored ways to streamline emergency response mechanisms and ensure timely compensation for those impacted by wildlife encounters. M. K. Yadava stressed that sustainable solutions must balance the safety of local communities with the critical need to preserve wildlife habitats. He encouraged the adoption of scientific management practices and increased public awareness to foster coexistence between the local population and elephants.
