Guwahati: The Assam government will assign portfolios to its newly inducted Council of Ministers today. This move serves as the final step in establishing a refreshed administrative team under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Sarma confirmed the schedule on social media, noting that the assignments will allow his administration to begin coordinated efforts toward the state's progress and prosperity. The Chief Minister stated that the allocation of departments among the ministers will help the government work toward the state's "progress and prosperity."

The group of newly inducted legislators includes Ashwini Ray Sarkar, Ashok Singhal, Bimal Borah, Biswajit Daimary, and Jayanta Mallabaruah. Other members joining the council are Kaushik Rai, Keshab Mahanta, Krishnendu Paul, Nilima Devi, Pijush Hazarika, Ranoj Pegu, and Susanta Borgohain. Senior officials and dignitaries are expected to attend the ceremony to witness the formal distribution of duties.

This reorganization follows a strong showing by the BJP-led NDA in the recent state assembly elections, where the alliance claimed 102 of the 126 available seats. The BJP secured 82 seats, while partners AGP and BPF added 10 seats each. Sarma began his second consecutive term as Chief Minister on May 12, previously inducting Atul Bora, Ajanta Neog, Rameswar Teli, and Charan Boro into his cabinet.
