Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Northeast region has successfully shed its image as India's last mile. Speaking at the 73rd plenary session of the North Eastern Council in Shillong, Sarma described the area as the country's primary gateway to Southeast Asia.

The shift is driven by India's Act East Policy, which aims to improve regional connectivity and economic integration. Sarma noted that the region is bridging the gap between markets, cultures, and global opportunities.

Sharing his perspective on the platform X, Sarma stated, "Through the Act East Policy, it is becoming Bharat's first gateway to Southeast Asia, linking markets, cultures and opportunities across borders." His comments reflect a growing focus on the Northeast as a critical hub for India's international outreach and its expanding diplomatic ties with neighboring nations.
