Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expanded his cabinet on Friday, inducting 12 new ministers into the state government. Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office and secrecy to the new ministers during a ceremony attended by the Chief Minister.

The new appointees include BJP legislators Ashwini Ray Sarkar, Nilima Devi, and Sushanta Borgohain, alongside former Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary. Keshab Mahanta, representing the Asom Gana Parishad, also rejoined the ministerial team. Rounding out the cabinet are Ashok Singhal, Bimal Borah, Jayant Mallabaruah, Kaushik Rai, Krishnendu Paul, Pijush Hazarika, and Ranoj Pegu.

Sarma confirmed the cabinet expansion details on social media a day before the event. The ceremony solidifies the team for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance's third consecutive term. The coalition secured a firm mandate in the recent state elections, winning 102 out of 126 available seats. Regarding the incoming council of ministers, Sarma stated, "The swearing-in ceremony was conducted by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, with Sarma present as the new council of ministers took oath of office and secrecy."

This latest expansion follows the Chief Minister's own swearing-in ceremony held on May 12 at the Khanapara Veterinary College Field in Guwahati. Previous cabinet members including Rameswar Teli, Atul Bora, Charan Boro, and Ajanta Neog were present at that initial event.
