Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced the induction of 12 new ministers into his state cabinet. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for June 5 at 12:45 pm, marking a significant expansion for the government which currently consists of the Chief Minister and four ministers sworn in last month.
Sharing the news on social media, Sarma stated: "I am pleased to announce that the following Hon'ble Members of the Assam Legislative Assembly will be sworn in as Cabinet Ministers in the Government of Assam on 5 June 2026 at 12:45 PM."
The incoming ministers include Ashwini Ray Sarkar, Ashok Singhal, Bimal Borah, Biswajit Daimary, Jayanta Mallabaruah, Kaushik Rai, Keshab Mahanta, Krishnendu Paul, Nilima Devi, Pijush Hazarika, Ranoj Pegu, and Susanta Borgohain. This expansion brings the total strength of the Council of Ministers to 17, leaving two positions vacant in the 19-member cabinet.
The new list reflects a mix of experienced leaders and fresh faces, including the appointment of former Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary and Nilima Devi. The addition of Nilima Devi increases the representation of women in the cabinet to two, joining Finance Minister Ajanta Neog. The government also maintained alliance representation, with Keshab Mahanta joining the cabinet to represent the Asom Gana Parishad.
This move follows the BJP-led coalition's victory in the recent state assembly elections. Portfolio allocations for the new ministers are expected to be announced following the conclusion of the swearing-in ceremony.
