Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the state legislative assembly will convene for its budget session starting July 6. The session will last 21 days, a timeline necessitated by the procedural requirement to provide a month of notice to summon the House. Sarma stated, "The budget session will be for 21 days, and it will be from July 6, as a month is required to summon the House."
The government plans to begin distributing benefits for various development schemes on August 1, once the full state budget is passed. Earlier this year, the administration could only secure a vote-on-account due to the assembly elections, which caused a temporary delay in releasing these funds. The recent cabinet meeting marked the first gathering of the 16-member ministry following the recent expansion.
Sarma, who secured a second consecutive term after his alliance won 102 seats in the assembly elections, noted that portfolios for the new ministers will be finalized within a week. He also confirmed that the list of guardian ministers for each district will be released on Saturday. These officials are responsible for monitoring and overseeing development projects across their designated regions.
