Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the state legislative assembly will convene for its budget session on July 6. The session is scheduled to last for 21 days to ensure all necessary legislative procedures are completed.
Sarma confirmed that government development scheme benefits will reach citizens starting August 1, once the full budget passes. The government was previously limited to a vote on account due to the recent assembly elections, which hindered the release of these funds. As the Chief Minister noted, "The budget session will continue for 21 days and will start from July 6, as at least a month is needed to summon the House."
This announcement followed the first meeting of the newly expanded 16-member cabinet. While the Chief Minister intends to allocate portfolios to the new ministers within a week, he plans to announce the list of guardian ministers on Saturday. These officials oversee development projects across assigned districts.
Sarma secured a second term leading the NDA government after the alliance won 102 seats in the recent elections. Four ministers were sworn in on May 12, followed by 12 others on Friday.
