Guwahati: The Standing Finance Committee of Assam signed off on Rs 66 crore in new spending. The cash covers projects across four state departments. Officials focused on fiscal discipline and timely completion.
The Home and Political Department secured Rs 14.32 crore for the Surrender-cum-Rehabilitation Scheme. This plan grants Rs 4 lakh to each of the 358 Kuki and Hmar group members to help their socio-economic standing. The Special Branch Headquarters will manage the rollout, drawing from a budget pool of Rs 32.57 crore.
The Women and Child Development Department received approval for a Rs 25-crore package. This includes Rs 10 crore for preschool utensil kits at Anganwadi Centres. Another Rs 15 crore covers the 2026-27 Terminal Benefit Scheme for Anganwadi Helpers and Workers, including those in mini centers.
Infrastructure projects also received attention. The committee revalidated Rs 10.92 crore for the District Transport Office building in Amingaon, Kamrup. The build is 72 percent complete, with Rs 6.41 crore already spent. Meanwhile, the Industrial Estate in Dighalichapari, Sonitpur, will finish a 33 KV power line and a 2x5 MVA, 33/11 KV sub-station. This power project is 90 percent finished, with Rs 6.74 crore released to date.
The committee mandated strict monitoring to stop fund diversion. They demanded that all departments link costs to clear outcomes. They stated, "Every rupee of public money must be utilised prudently and deliver measurable benefits to the people."
