Assam Agricultural University Partners with International Potato Center to Boost Crop Yields

Guwahati: Assam Agricultural University signed a deal with the International Potato Center on August 23, 2026. The ceremony took place in New Delhi. This partnership aims to fix low productivity, poor seed quality, and a lack of cold storage across the Northeast. It addresses pest issues and mechanization gaps. The team also plans to fix broken value chains.

AAU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Dipjyoti Rajkhowa pushed for better processing at the event. He noted: "AAU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Dipjyoti Rajkhowa highlighted the need for inclusive potato cultivation, improved post-production and processing facilities, value addition and stronger market linkages."

The collaboration focuses on climate-resilient farming, biofortified varieties, and nutrient management. It creates new research paths for students from the region. Future efforts may extend into Punjab and Rajasthan. Dignitaries at the event included CIP Director General Dr. Simon Heck, Dr. K.M. Bujarbarua, Dr. Divesh Chaturvedi, and Dr. Hugo Campos. These experts hope to boost market access for local growers through better crop management.
