Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has reported major progress in establishing an Indian Institute of Management in Guwahati. Sarma met with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday evening in New Delhi to finalize the framework for the proposed institution.

The initiative aims to bolster higher education infrastructure across the state. Sarma stated that the government intends to develop Assam into a primary educational hub for East India. He credited Pradhan for supporting the project, which is expected to enhance research, management studies, and local skill development. Authorities will release further details regarding the site, construction timeline, and project implementation once state and central consultations conclude.

In a separate event on Tuesday, Sarma partnered with Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M Scindia to launch the Senehjori Assam Muga Silk initiative. This program involves the Central Silk Board and the Ministry of Textiles to elevate the state's Muga silk industry into a global luxury brand. The mission focuses on improving every stage of production, from cultivation and seed supply to international branding and digital traceability.
