Kohima: The Naga Hoho Search Committee is calling on all tribal organizations to rejoin the apex body. They want to create a representative platform for every region and administrative boundary. The appeal, titled One People, One Voice: A Fervent Appeal to Rebuild the Naga Hoho, aims to heal old wounds. Internal conflicts have divided the people for too long.
The current committee includes convenor Chuba Ozukum, Toniho Sheqi, Ng. Lorho, Ningthoudai Gonmei, and Wairok Hangsing. They are tackling a history of fragmentation. The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization pulled out years ago. The Central Nagaland Tribes Council, which includes the Ao, Sumi, and Lotha tribes, stays away. Five Tenyimi tribes remain absent as well. These departures stripped the hoho of its collective power.
The Federal Assembly at Senapati decided to act on July 31, 2026. They fired the Executive Council and put the Speaker in charge. The committee now has a strict three-month deadline to nominate a new team. They say the stakes could not be higher.
"The Naga political question concerns the entire Naga people irrespective of present administrative boundaries and that a durable and honourable political settlement requires unity among Naga tribes and regions."
The region currently faces an opposition-less government in Nagaland. Various political groups are trying to coordinate through the Forum for Naga Reconciliation. The committee warns that failure to unite threatens to trigger more bloodshed. They are pushing for an accountable, democratic structure. The group wants the focus to stay on finding a lasting Indo-Naga political solution.
