Guwahati: The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) is calling on the state government to urgently address long-standing salary payment issues affecting staff at the State Council of Educational Research and Training and 11 District Institutes of Education and Training. APCC president Bosiram Siram warned that continued financial instability has brought employees to the brink of an indefinite strike.
The Arunachal Pradesh Teacher Educators Association has held several protests since late May, including pen-down strikes, to demand a permanent fix to recurring payment delays. The association plans to launch an indefinite no pay, no work protest starting June 15 if the government fails to intervene. According to the party, staff have faced irregular income since 2019, which has created severe financial burdens for families.
The association is pushing for salaries to be sourced directly from the state exchequer rather than relying on centrally sponsored funding, which they believe causes inconsistent payouts. Siram emphasized the broader impact of this crisis on the state's educational quality.
"It is unfortunate that educators entrusted with shaping the future of our education system have been compelled to resort to agitation for redressal of their legitimate concerns," Siram said. The APCC urged state officials to initiate immediate dialogue and coordinate between departments to ensure that teachers receive their compensation on time.
