Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has marked ten years in office. He reached the milestone on July 17, 2016, to now. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju met Khandu at Parliament House in New Delhi to toast the tenure. Rijiju lauded the state for achieving what he called "historic milestones in infrastructure, social sector and governance reforms" over the last decade.
Khandu credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for driving the state's growth. He vowed to keep pushing for a stronger and Viksit Arunachal. The celebration was short-lived. He shifted focus to the state's ongoing disaster recovery efforts.
Khandu sat down with Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan to demand federal aid. Heavy rains and flash floods recently battered rural Arunachal. Crops, livestock, and roads suffered widespread damage. The Chief Minister requested financial support for farmers facing crop losses and asked for better funding under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana to fix remote border roads.
Joint ground and aerial teams already surveyed the wreckage. Officials confirmed the damage is extensive. After the session, Khandu reported that Chouhan gave a positive response. The Union Minister promised to assist with disaster relief and rehabilitation projects. Khandu thanked him for his help. He stated, "Grateful for his positive response and continued support towards the development of our rural communities and the welfare of our farmers."
