Angami Students Union Condemns Sexual Assault Involving Church Youth Leader

Kohima: The Angami Students’ Union (ASU) has issued a statement of profound outrage following the reported sexual assault of a 17-year-old minor. The suspect, a 34-year-old youth leader from a church in Kohima village, has already been taken into custody by local law enforcement.

The union described the crime as a heinous act that violates fundamental human rights. According to the organization, the incident represents a devastating assault on the innocence of a minor that cannot be tolerated. They expressed deep concern that such behavior occurred within a religious institution, a space traditionally revered as a sanctuary of safety and trust.

The ASU emphasized that this betrayal of leadership has inflicted significant trauma on the victim while shaking the faith of the broader community. The union stated that the alleged act is entirely foreign to their traditional values and warned against the influence of corrosive vices within Naga society. They remain committed to supporting the victim and her family throughout the legal process.

While acknowledging the arrest of the accused, the union is calling for a thorough, meticulous and exhaustive investigation. They have urged administrative and judicial authorities to monitor the case closely and implement stringent deterrent measures to prevent future crimes. The ASU maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding the exploitation of youth and is demanding that the perpetrator faces befitting penalties under the law.
