Imphal: Manipur might still be peaceful today if locals held the power to manage their own internal affairs. Sanjoy Sorokhaibam, president of the All Manipur United Clubs Organisation, laid out this vision at an event in the Kwakeithel office. The gathering marked 80 years since the British left the state, prompting a look back at the region's long political journey.
Sorokhaibam argues that administrative force cannot hold a society together alone. Peace requires direct public involvement in every step of conflict resolution. He maintains that dialogue remains the only fix for deep-rooted problems. He stated, "many of the internal problems of Manipur could have been solved by dialogue and people-centred governance if the people had been provided enough space and power to manage their internal matters."
The organization is pushing for a shift in strategy. Leaders want an approach that prioritizes the security and aspirations of the people above all else. This means abandoning heavy-handed security tactics in favor of political talks. AMUCO insists that using institutional wisdom to address internal strife is the only path forward for the state.
