Shillong: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will preside over the 73rd plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) in Shillong on June 4. The gathering serves as a platform to coordinate development goals across the region with a focus on tourism, agriculture, investment, and regional connectivity.
Ahead of the main session, officials met on June 3 to evaluate flagship programs, including bamboo and agarwood development and the Ashtalakshmi Darshan project. The plenary will review progress made by high-level task forces led by Chief Ministers, who are working to accelerate growth in critical sectors.
The agenda includes discussions on self-reliance in food production, sports development, infrastructure projects, and the promotion of local handloom and handicrafts. Participants will also examine major initiatives from the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), such as logistics projects and outcomes from recent investment summits.
A significant portion of the session will be dedicated to the North East Vision Plan 2047. This long-term roadmap aims to transform the region into a center for economic growth, innovation, and sustainability by the centenary of India's independence.
The event will be attended by Union Minister and NEC Vice-Chairman Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, along with Governors and Chief Ministers from all eight Northeastern states. Established in 1971, the NEC acts as the primary regional planning body to ensure inter-state cooperation and cohesive development.
