Amit Shah to Lead 73rd North Eastern Council Plenary in Shillong

Shillong: Union Home Minister and NEC Chairman Amit Shah is set to lead the 73rd Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council in Shillong on Thursday. The gathering brings together governors, chief ministers from all eight northeastern states, and senior government officials to coordinate regional development strategies.

Key attendees include Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Minister of State Dr. Sukanta Majumdar. Discussions will focus on the North East Vision Plan 2047, a long-term roadmap intended to drive economic growth, sustainability, and connectivity throughout the region by India's centenary of independence.

Prior to the plenary, officials held a pre-meeting on Wednesday to review flagship initiatives involving bamboo and agar wood, as well as the Ashtalakshmi Darshan project. The session will evaluate progress made by high-level task forces on sectors including tourism, agriculture, infrastructure, sports, and self-reliance in food production. Participants will also receive updates on recent investment summits and youth-focused programs.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma noted that the council serves as a vital platform for regional cooperation. He highlighted that the Ministry of DoNER has established specific task forces led by various chief ministers to foster collaboration across state lines. The North Eastern Council, established in 1971, continues to function as the primary regional planning body for the area.
