Agartala: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has ordered a major security upgrade along the Tripura-Bangladesh border, mandating the rollout of a pilot CCTV surveillance model and the integration of all Border Security Force camera feeds with district administration networks. These directives followed a review meeting on border management held in Salbagan on June 5, which included Chief Minister Manik Saha and other senior state and security officials.

Shah emphasized that effective border management requires more than just fencing, urging a collaborative defense framework that includes civil administration, local representatives, and security forces. Addressing the attendees, the Home Minister noted, “Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, the Government of India is strengthening every border area, with border security as its highest priority.”

To combat regional crime, Shah directed authorities to launch awareness campaigns for border residents and conduct frequent, aggressive operations against narcotics and arms smuggling networks. He stated that agencies must take a ruthless approach to dismantle the entire chain involved in drug trafficking.

The ministry also ordered a comprehensive audit of land records from the last five years in border districts to identify irregularities. This initiative will be supported by increased scrutiny of property transactions and construction projects. Furthermore, the Central Board of Direct Taxes will conduct a survey on fake currency, while local officials receive training to better monitor financial activities and enforce vigilance in sensitive frontier zones.
