Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on June 5 that the central government is rolling out a smart border project to bolster security across all areas guarded by the Border Security Force. Speaking at the Lankamura Border Outpost in Tripura, Shah stated that the initiative is reaching its final stage and aims to create an impregnable security framework through a mix of advanced technology, increased manpower, and closer coordination with local administrations.
The project, which will be launched as a pilot program at seven or eight locations nationwide, is designed to combat significant threats like drug and human trafficking, arms smuggling, and counterfeit currency operations. Addressing the personnel, the Home Minister said, "We have decided that wherever the BSF is deployed, smart border systems will be established. Through a combination of technology, administrative support and stronger manpower deployment, we will ensure that our borders become impregnable."
Beyond security upgrades, Shah addressed concerns regarding illegal infiltration, specifically noting that the government will not tolerate demographic shifts in West Bengal, Tripura, and Bihar. He emphasized that the Centre is dedicated to sealing gaps along the international boundaries to maintain national integrity.
During his visit, the Home Minister also pledged ongoing support for the welfare and living conditions of border personnel, praising their vigilance in protecting the nation. In addition to security matters, he highlighted India's proactive stance on climate change, noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has introduced various measures to reduce carbon emissions and promote energy efficiency that have earned international recognition.
