Akuluto bans pork sales after African Swine Fever outbreak

Kohima: Authorities locked down Akuluto on Monday. A suspected outbreak of African Swine Fever hit the State Pig Breeding Centre. Additional Deputy Commissioner Tiayanger Jamir ordered a total ban on the slaughter, sale, and movement of pigs and pork products.

The restriction covers the town and a one-kilometer radius, including Lumithsami, Shichimi, Sutemi, and Alaphumi. It stays in effect until further notice. Farm managers reported multiple pig deaths and noted that a post-mortem examination of the animals revealed "gross pathological lesions consistent with the disease."

Officials sent samples to a lab for confirmation. The virus spreads fast and ruins local economies. All pork shops and slaughter points must shut their doors immediately. Owners should report any sick animals to the breeding center at once. Anyone caught breaking these rules faces legal action.
