Aizawl: The Aizawl Group claimed the championship title at the Inter-Group Under-17 Girls Pre-Subroto Cup on Wednesday. The team secured a 2-0 victory against the Guwahati Group in the final match held at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Mualpui.
Mizoram Sports and Youth Services Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest. During his address, he praised the rising level of female participation in Indian football and expressed his confidence in regional talent. He stated, "Athletes from the North East continue to be India’s pride in football."
Organized by the National Cadet Corps North Eastern Region Directorate, the tournament brought together eight groups from across the region. Following Aizawl and Guwahati, the final standings saw Shillong and Jorhat take third and fourth place, while Tezpur, Dibrugarh, Silchar, and Kohima rounded out the remaining rankings. The competition served as a platform to highlight the role of the NCC in developing young athletes and fostering regional unity through sports.
