Aizawl: Mizoram Information and Public Relations Minister B Lalchhanzova recently honored All India Radio (AIR) Aizawl as a vital guardian of Mizo identity. During a musical concert celebrating the broadcaster's 90th anniversary, the minister emphasized the station's enduring commitment to preserving local language and indigenous traditions amidst the global threat of cultural erosion. He noted that the platform has evolved into a dedicated custodian of heritage, fostering local literature and music while promoting positive values across the community.
Reflecting on the organization's long history, AIR Aizawl Director and Cluster Head Dr. Lalropuia explained that the station served as a primary communication medium for the public long before India gained independence. He highlighted its ongoing importance as a bridge between the government and its citizens, noting that the broadcaster continues to support national development goals and broader governmental initiatives.
All India Radio, which was established on June 8, 1936, currently operates a network of approximately 230 stations across the country. In observance of its 90th year, AIR Aizawl has planned a series of events for the local community. These festivities include a walkathon scheduled for this Friday, which will lead up to the primary commemorative ceremony on June 8 at Vanapa Hall, where Chief Minister Lalduhoma is expected to be in attendance.
