African Swine Fever Outbreak Decimates Pig Population in Merangkong Village

Kohima: A severe outbreak of African Swine Fever is devastating pig populations in and around Merangkong village, where approximately 300 animals have died. The loss of livestock has created significant financial distress for families who depend on pig farming as their primary source of income.

Merangkong Village Council chairman Tino Yaden highlighted the gravity of the situation for the local community. He noted that many families rely entirely on this industry for their livelihood and are now struggling to cope with the sudden loss of their animals.

Yaden has formally appealed to the Nagaland government to address the crisis immediately. He stated, "The outbreak had resulted in the death of hundreds of pigs, leaving farmers in deep distress." He is urging authorities to provide urgent assistance to those affected and to implement measures that will prevent further losses to the village's livestock owners.
