Kohima: Livino K, a student from Yemishe village in Zunheboto, has been awarded the 2026 Huayu Enrichment Scholarship by the Taiwan Ministry of Education. This achievement allows her to travel to Taiwan for a six month intensive language program.

Her journey with the Mandarin language began in 2025 at the Taiwan Education Center located at Assam Don Bosco University. Despite facing obstacles like unreliable internet and frequent power outages in her remote village, Livino consistently attended her classes. Her instructor, Kuei Mi Li, credited her success to this unwavering dedication, noting that Livino successfully passed the Novice level Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language in March 2026.

The scholarship provides comprehensive support, including tuition fees, housing, and a monthly stipend of 28,000 NTD, which is approximately 80,000 rupees. Livino plans to use this opportunity to refine her language skills and immerse herself in the local culture. Looking ahead, she hopes to use her linguistic abilities to foster stronger connections between India and Taiwan.

Kuei Mi Li highlighted that the Taiwanese government offers these scholarships annually. Many students from across Northeast India have already utilized this program to secure professional roles with Taiwanese firms operating within the country.
