Aizawl: K. Laltluangkima, the candidate for the ruling Zoram People Movement, officially entered the race for Mizoram's Rajya Sabha seat on Friday. He filed his nomination papers before the Returning Officer, Zothansanga Ralte, who serves as the Commissioner and Secretary of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly.
The election is scheduled for June 18, 2026, to determine the state's next representative in the Upper House of Parliament. According to the Election Commission of India, the window for submitting nominations remains open until June 8. Officials will conduct a scrutiny of the filings on June 9, and candidates have until June 11 to withdraw their names.
Voting for the seat will occur on June 18 between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Counting of the ballots is set to begin at 5:00 PM on the same day. The state is participating in a wider electoral event that day, as "Mizoram's election coincides with Rajya Sabha polls in ten other states," including Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Rajasthan.
