Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma selected the winner for the Vanapa Hall and Park project on July 20. Catalyst Architecture Studio took the top prize. The Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation Department hosted the event. The site sits on former Assam Rifles land returned to the public.
Competition for the design started March 17. Judges reviewed 33 total entries. They shortlisted six firms after three months of work. Catalyst Architecture Studio beat them all.
Lalduhoma wants a world-class hub. He aims for a spot that locals and visitors recognize instantly. "Vanapa Hall and Park will be the most visible and recognisable public gathering place in Aizawl. We want to create a beautiful, functional and safe landmark in the heart of the city, a place that immediately comes to mind when people think of Aizawl," Lalduhoma said.
Urban Development Minister K. Sapdanga backed the plan. He wants a vibrant, modern city. The project includes better roads and green space. An advisory committee will guide construction. The state government intends to ask for money via the Prime Minister's Development Initiative for North East Region scheme. Officials confirmed that funding remains unapproved at this time.
