Aizawl: The Young Mizo Association, the state's most prominent socio-cultural organization, marked its 91st Raising Day on Monday with a series of community-focused events. Branches throughout Mizoram held cleanliness drives, assisted local orphanages, and provided financial aid to economically disadvantaged families.
Mizoram Governor Vijay Kumar Singh commended the organization for its long history of public service. He encouraged citizens to embrace the local spirit of selflessness known as Tlawmngaihna while addressing the growing challenges of substance abuse. The Governor emphasized the need for collective action to protect the youth, stating, "I appeal for collective efforts to tackle the menace and safeguard the future of the younger generation."
Central Young Mizo Association president R. Lalngheta reinforced this mission, calling on members to intensify their fight against drug trafficking. He labeled drug dealers as enemies of the community and urged the organization to remain steadfast in its commitment to social welfare.
Founded in 1935 as the Young Lushai Association, the group was renamed in 1947 to reflect the Mizo identity. With nearly five lakh members, the organization now operates 821 branches across Mizoram and surrounding regions. It remains dedicated to promoting education, cultural heritage, and strong moral values, supported by its headquarters in Aizawl.
