Wokha Ward 8 Declares Paid Holiday for June 16 Polling

Kohima: Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, K. Mhathung Tsanglao, has declared June 16, 2026, a paid holiday for voters residing in Ward 8 (Tsumang B). The order aims to ensure that all registered electors have the necessary time to exercise their franchise during the upcoming polling day.

This mandate extends to employees who are enrolled as electors in the ward but currently reside or work in different areas. Banks and financial institutions across Nagaland must also observe this date as a paid holiday for staff members registered to vote in Ward 8, as stipulated by the Negotiable Instrument Act of 1981.

Commercial activity will also be restricted to prioritize the election process. Under the Nagaland Shops and Establishments Act of 1982, all shops and businesses managed by registered voters in the ward are required to remain closed during polling hours. The order specified that "the polling date will be observed as paid holiday for employees of banks and financial institutions in Nagaland registered as electors in the ward."

The administration noted that these provisions exclude workers whose absence would result in danger or substantial professional loss. Additionally, if a repoll is required, the date determined by the State Election Commission will also be recognized as a public holiday for the affected voters.
