Kohima: Wokha district officials want faster reports on dead livestock. Owners must now notify the nearest veterinary center or government office within 24 hours of a disaster to access State Disaster Response Fund cash. Speed matters here.

District Commissioner K Mhathung Tsanglao issued the order this Thursday to tighten up the paperwork. Once a report hits the desk, veterinary staff have three days to show up for a spot check. Owners must provide geo-tagged photos of the remains to prove the loss. A qualified vet needs to perform a post-mortem exam whenever possible.

The district veterinary officer will issue a formal death certificate only after confirming the disaster killed the animal. The circular stated: "The death of animals due to a disaster must be reported within 24 hours to the authorities concerned for further action."

Chief veterinary officers must keep clean files on all cases. They are responsible for sending this data to the District Disaster Management Authority and the directorate. Tsanglao expects everyone to follow these steps to keep the aid flowing.
