Wokha Forest Management Project Reviews Annual Progress and Successes

Kohima: The Divisional Management Unit of the Nagaland Forest Management Project held its annual review meeting for 2025-26 in Wokha on May 29. Hosted at the Forest Colony Community Hall, the session gathered district officials, forest department personnel, and community representatives to evaluate the past year and plan upcoming objectives.

DFO and DMU Head Suman W. M. Sivachar chaired the meeting, where stakeholders reviewed forestry interventions, nursery development, and ongoing livelihood programs. Ethel Odyuo, team leader for the implementing agency Natural Nagas, provided updates on capacity building, business plans for self-help groups, and forest management assessments. During the proceedings, Niroyo Village was recognized as the Best Joint Forest Management Committee, while New Changsu Village’s Longaro group received the award for Best Self-Help Group.

SDO Civil Echungbemo Erui offered recommendations to improve future results, including better plantation site selection and formal agreements to prevent land encroachment. He also encouraged closer collaboration with the Disaster Management team to mitigate fire risks and suggested integrating skill development programs for local youth. Suman W. M. Sivachar thanked the attendees for their contributions and committed to addressing project challenges through continued coordination with the project management unit.
