Wokha Authorities Impose Prohibitory Orders in Ward 8 Amid Election Tension

Kohima: The District Magistrate of Wokha has issued a prohibitory order for Ward 8 of Wokha Town Council to prevent potential unrest during the June 16 town council elections. Officials took this step after receiving credible information regarding tension between rival groups and supporters in the area.

Under the new directive, the assembly of five or more people for unlawful purposes is strictly banned. The order also prohibits carrying weapons, including sticks, daos, machetes, catapults, and explosives. Authorities aim to prevent intimidation, coercion, or threats against voters, polling personnel, and election officials to ensure a fair voting process.

The administration warned that any speech or activity likely to incite violence or disturb the peace will result in legal action. The order specifically mandates the Superintendent of Police to ensure the directive is enforced in "letter and spirit."

These restrictions will remain in effect until the election process concludes or until further notice. The ban does not apply to police, armed forces, or authorized government officials tasked with maintaining security. Individuals found violating these rules face prosecution under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
