West Garo Hills man accused of burning wife to death

Shillong: Saddam Hussain allegedly killed his wife, Salema Khatun, in Bhangarpar village on Wednesday night. The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Tikrikilla Police Station. Hussain remains at large and is currently hiding with his parents.

Police arrived at the scene to find the victim’s body. Relatives of the deceased reported that the husband frequently abused her. He regularly demanded she extract cash from her family. Khatun’s brother, Chandmamuth Sh, filed a formal complaint at the Bogularbhita outpost on Thursday morning.

Witnesses confirmed the pattern of abuse. The family stated, "The husband, along with his relatives, used to punish the woman by demanding money from her parents." The suspects rushed the victim to a hospital in Assam, but she died from her injuries. Fearing arrest, they fled the facility immediately. Police have opened a case and are now digging into the details to track them down.
