Kohima: Vedanta Oil and Gas is pushing for new hydrocarbon exploration across Northeast India. The company says the region holds the key to greater national energy security. Executives shared this vision at the North East Energy Summit 2026, Nagaland Energy Chapter. They joined a panel titled, “Unlocking Nagaland’s Hydrocarbon Potential.”
Graham Richardson, Balu Govind Meempat, and Avishkar Chauhan represented the firm. They pointed to the Digboi-Namdang region as proof of historical oil success. Despite that legacy, vast resources remain buried. The team wants to use modern technology and better policy to change that. They draw confidence from their work in Barmer, Rajasthan, and a recent discovery at Rudra.
The company is eyeing opportunities in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland. Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal previously pledged funds for the sector at Advantage Assam 2.0. Further investments now cover Mizoram, Tripura, and Meghalaya as well. These efforts fall under the government's Hydrocarbon Vision 2030 strategy.
Success depends on cooperation. The company demands tight coordination between the Centre, state governments, industry players, and locals. Vedanta also claims it creates jobs through skill development and digital education programs in Assam. They argue that profit and community support must walk hand in hand to build a sustainable future.
