Shillong: Diplomatic discussions between the United States, Iran, Qatar, and Pakistan have been delayed, the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs announced on Friday. While the meetings in Switzerland have been put on hold, Swiss officials confirmed that preparatory work at Burgenstock is still moving forward.
The talks were intended to transition from a broad political framework to specific negotiations regarding the implementation, verification, and compliance of a recently signed memorandum of understanding. The White House noted that the logistics of these high-stakes discussions are complex and have proven difficult to coordinate.
US Vice President JD Vance, who expects to lead the American delegation, acknowledged the volatility of the scheduling. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Vance noted the difficulty in syncing travel arrangements for the Iranian team, stating, "That could change because it’s not an easy country, Iran, to get out of and so we’re trying to figure out exactly when that’s going to happen."
Despite the postponement, the White House maintains that it remains committed to the process. Officials have not released a new departure date for the US team but expressed a desire to begin the technical discussions soon. The Trump administration has emphasized that this next phase is a critical test of the agreement, with Vance asserting that the United States prioritizes actions and conduct over verbal commitments.
