Imphal: Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho opened a new tribal market Thursday at Mayophung village. The site sits on National Highway-202, the main artery linking Imphal and Ukhrul. The Nashira Area People’s Organisation built the facility using funds from the 4th State Finance Commission via the Ukhrul Autonomous District Council.

Dikho expects the location to draw travelers from Imphal and nearby regions. This foot traffic gives local farmers a direct line to sell their goods. The minister believes the market helps the state become self-reliant. "The new facility would create better economic opportunities for local farmers and help strengthen their livelihoods by providing a platform to sell their produce," Dikho stated.

The State Environment Department will assist with site beautification. NAPO representatives also handed the Deputy Chief Minister a formal request for a new market shed, a public bathroom, and a borewell at their headquarters. The All Foothills Tribal Auto Association also submitted a memorandum during the event.

Khashim Vashum, MLA for Chingai, Leishiyo Keishing, MLA for Phungyar, and Ram Muivah, MLA for Ukhrul, attended the ceremony. NAPO convenor Ngaranmi Kasar and Pastor Samuel Zimk also appeared.
