Kohima: The Ura Zuveh Foundation partnered with the National Human Rights Commission to conduct a human rights training program in Chesezu village, Phek district, on June 13, 2026. The event, titled “Children and Elderly Rights: Human Rights Living in Rural Communities,” gathered local school teachers, village officials, students, and youth leaders to discuss critical protections for vulnerable populations.
Expert speakers included Sekhotso Rokha, a retainer lawyer for the Phek District Legal Services Authority, and Vethothi Vero, the chief legal aid defense counsel for the same organization. The curriculum spanned four sessions that addressed fundamental human rights, the POCSO Act, the Juvenile Justice Act, and laws prohibiting child labor.
Publicity secretary Vesukho Swuro noted that the training focused on awareness of rights of children and elderly persons in rural areas, legal safeguards and mechanisms for accessing justice. Participants also explored the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act alongside community-based grievance redressal strategies. The workshop highlighted the importance of legal aid services in securing justice and safety for those living in rural communities.
