Shillong: The United Democratic Party has officially accepted the resignation of former vice president Robertjune Kharjahrin. Kharjahrin, who previously represented the party as a candidate in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, stepped down to protest the party's decision to support MDA nominee James P.K. Sangma in the upcoming June 18 Rajya Sabha poll.
UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh confirmed the party received the letter and opted not to discuss the specific reasons behind the departure. "Everyone has the freedom to think in whatever way they feel. We have received the resignation letter. We respect his decision and have accepted his resignation," Lyngdoh stated.
Despite the resignation, Lyngdoh rejected claims that the party is facing internal instability. He insisted that the move should not be viewed as a sign of division within the organization. Lyngdoh maintained that the party remains unified and dismissed the suggestion that there are deep-seated differences among its members.
