Itanagar: The United Christian Forum has announced its support for a mass vehicle rally in Itanagar on June 18. Organized by the Arunachal Christian Forum, the demonstration aims to oppose the draft rules of the Arunachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act of 1978.

In a statement released from New Delhi, the United Christian Forum warned that the proposed regulations could compromise religious freedom and individual autonomy. The organization argues that while the Constitution permits restrictions for public order, these measures must remain precise and proportionate. Leaders fear the draft rules might go beyond addressing coercive conversions and instead interfere with voluntary expressions of faith.

The forum pointed to Article 25 of the Constitution, which protects the rights of citizens to practice and propagate their religion. Officials expressed concern that the new rules will foster mistrust rather than safety. Dr. Michael Williams, the national president of the United Christian Forum, emphasized that the push for repeal seeks to harmonize state law with national constitutional values.

"Repealing APFRA is not about removing protection. It is about ensuring laws do not overreach into personal freedoms. It is about aligning state legislation with constitutional values. It is about building a society where trust replaces suspicion," Williams stated. Organizers of the rally hope the event will demonstrate clear public opposition to the draft and help mobilize support across the state.
