Aizawl: Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh will launch a series of development projects worth Rs 32.15 crore in Aizawl, Mizoram, on May 25. These initiatives fall under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana and the Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund, aiming to build a self-sustained fisheries sector across the northeastern states.
The announcement will take place during the Regional Review Meeting for the Northeastern Region 2026, which is being hosted by the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying. Ministers and senior officials from all eight northeastern states will attend the event in a hybrid format to assess the current progress of various government schemes. The discussions will focus on future strategies for sustainable growth, improving farmer welfare, and enhancing livelihoods in the dairy and livestock sectors.
Several administrative and educational resources will also be unveiled during the session. These include a village-level survey to expand multipurpose dairy cooperatives, an awareness film regarding African swine fever, and an instructional booklet on pig farming. Additionally, the Union Minister will debut new dairy products, including cow ghee from the Mizoram Milk Producers Co-operative Union, and open a new office and sales outlet for a local producer organization.
The event will feature a recognition ceremony where the Minister will distribute awards and Fisheries KCC cards to beneficiaries from the region. The visit will conclude with a direct interaction between the Union Minister and local stakeholders to identify specific challenges and determine the support necessary to modernize infrastructure and promote scientific practices in the regional fishing industry.
