Aizawl: Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan pledged federal support for Mizoram's media, film, and digital infrastructure during a recent two-day visit. Shortly after arriving at Lengpui Airport, Murugan met with Mizoram Information and Public Relations Minister B. Lalchhanzova to discuss strategies for strengthening the state's creative economy.
Lalchhanzova submitted several proposals to transform the state into a digital content hub. A primary focus is the planned establishment of laboratories for Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics in 200 schools and 20 colleges. This initiative aims to foster innovation and digital literacy among local youth.
The state government also requested specialized training for Mizo filmmakers through elite institutions like the Film and Television Institute of India and the National Film Development Corporation. Officials argued that upgrading cinema hall infrastructure and constructing new theaters would help preserve cultural heritage while creating jobs and promoting local-language films.
Additional requests included expanding the Lemchan Film Festival into a five-day event to increase regional networking and securing financial aid from the 10 percent Gross Budgetary Support allocated to the Northeast. Murugan responded positively to the requests, promising that the Centre would work to address these needs and improve the visibility of Mizo cinema on national and international stages.
