Aizawl: Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan has promised central assistance to bolster Mizoram’s media, film, and digital infrastructure. The assurance followed a meeting with state officials, including Information and Public Relations Minister B. Lalchhanzova and ICT Minister Vanlalthlana, at Lengpui airport.
The Mizoram government proposed establishing Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics laboratories in 200 schools and 50 colleges. This initiative aims to foster digital innovation and prepare students for careers in the creative sector. State officials also requested training programs for local filmmakers in partnership with the National Film Development Corporation and the Film and Television Institute of India.
Beyond education and skills, the state government pushed for the modernization of cinema theaters across the Northeast and a new infrastructure development scheme for the region. They further requested financial backing for media initiatives through the ministry’s budgetary allocation and continued support for Mizo filmmakers to attend major film festivals.
Murugan confirmed that the central government will review these proposals with an eye toward early implementation. He also expressed a personal interest in attending a future film festival hosted in the state.
