Shillong: Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya joined hundreds of cyclists in Shillong on Sunday to champion the 76th edition of the Sundays on Cycle campaign. The initiative, part of the wider Fit India Movement, aims to encourage physical health while promoting sustainable living and fuel conservation.

The event saw significant participation from local athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and the public. Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Khadse and Meghalaya Sports Minister Wailadmiki Shylla also joined the ride. Mandaviya highlighted that cycling serves as a practical solution to modern challenges like traffic congestion and pollution, urging citizens to integrate it into their daily commutes.

Mandaviya noted that the campaign has expanded significantly, with events taking place at over 6,000 locations nationwide this Sunday. He emphasized that building a healthy population is vital for the nation's development and encouraged young people in Meghalaya to embrace cycling as both a sport and a lifestyle. With Meghalaya set to host the National Games in 2027, the minister stressed the importance of fostering a strong local cycling culture.

Raksha Khadse praised the enthusiasm shown by the people of Shillong, noting the steady rise in cycling interest across the city. The program concluded with participants renewing their commitment to environmental responsibility and public fitness through regular exercise.
